The Southern California Public Management Association for Human Resources, the largest chapter of IPMA-HR, is hosting its Annual Training Conference next week on Thursday, April 7, 2010 at Almansor Court again in Alhambra, CA. The theme is “Survivor!” in the HR Jungle.

The curriculum is designed to maximize the benefits of time attendees spend at the conference. With multiple breakout sessions, a panel, and keynote addresses and presentations, the day will offer both training and information. The last day to pre-register for the event is Monday, April 4th, but for convenience, payments will be accepted at the door.

In addition to offering a panel with Rand Anderson from CalPERS discussing pension reform, there will be two keynote presentations. The General Morning Session will feature Carol Maher and Cindy Grannis from Leading Edge Coaching & Development, addressing “Maximizing Energy in a World that Sucks You Dry.” The luncheon keynote will be a Labor Law Update given by Scott Tiedemann from Liebert Cassidy Whitmore.

There will be three tracks of breakout sessions-technical, technology and health/wellness. Among the topics are compressing classifications, leveraging social media, software conversions, mental health issues in the public sector, layoffs: lessons learned, and building resiliency. Attendees can earn HRCI general continuing education credit of 6 hours and MCLE or IPMA-CP credit as well.

SCPMA-HR was founded in 1940 and is the leading organization addressing the needs of public sector Human Resources professionals in Southern California. The membership of SCPMA-HR with over 200 human resources professionals hails from a very large geographical area-from Calabasas to Long Beach and the San Gabriel Valley to San Clemente and represents cities, counties, special districts, and schools.

The goals of the organization are to provide tools, resources and information unique to the public sector and to enhance the image of the HR professional through ongoing professional, personal and organizational development. In promotion of these efforts, two awards for distinguished service in advancing and upholding the purposes of SCPMA-HR will be presented during the lunch.

Registration is $99 for SCPMA-HR members and $149 for non-SCPMA-HR Chapter members. Individuals can register on-line at www.scpma-hr.org.
