Darren Bates, a Council Bluffs City Councilman in Iowa, was busted in a Craigslist sex solicitation sting back in February.

Bates, who was also the Omaha Fire Union President, is now in the beginning stages of his trial, accused of soliciting sex during a prostitution sting at a hotel.

According to an article in the Omaha World-Herald, video is being shown to the jury of Bates entering a hotel room, talking to a woman posing as a prostitute as he sits on a bed and places money on a table.

A hidden video of the encounter was shown in the courtroom. Bates’ attorney, James Martin Davis, claims that detectives cannot point out a point in which Bates agreed to sex for money.

Dennis Murray, president of the Contestoga School Board (Nebraska), was also cited in the same sting in February.
