The Fire Department in the City of Glendale has been awarded $20,000 by the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company to purchase upgraded software for in the field handheld devices.

The resolution which can be read here gives background that outlines the success of the Department over the years by using on duty firefighters to inspect businesses per the city’s safety code. The software that this grant will provide is intended to educate business owners about code compliance as well as give firefighters an opportunity to familiarize themselves with emergency situations they man encounter.

Other advantages of handheld database devises are that they have the ability for firefighters to pull records during inspections and to note changes or current affairs. Data will be shared with other departments in the city which offers a great opportunity to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Funds were appropriated solely from the Heritage Grant to purchase software for the Fire Department Company’s Inspection Program.
