On June 7, 2022, La Verne voters in Districts 1, 3 and 4 voted under the City’s new district based election system for the first time. Following the conclusion of the Los Angeles County Registrar’s  Official Election Canvass period, the elected City Council members were seated during the Council meeting  on July 18. The members of the new La Verne City Council are: 

  • District 1: Steven Frank Johnson 
  • District 2: Rick Crosby 
  • District 3: Meshal “Kash” Kashifalghita 
  • District 4: Tim Hepburn 
  • District 5: Wendy M. Lau 

The two outgoing City Council Members were recognized by their colleagues and the public for their years  of service to the City. 

“After 13 years of serving on the City Council for La Verne, I am proud of what we have achieved as a  community,” said Councilmember Carder. “My motto has always been, ‘Make a positive difference in  someone else’s life,’ and I believe we have accomplished that together over the last decade.” 

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to serve the community,” said Councilmember Davis.  “Our City staff are some of the most amazing people I’ve ever worked with, and I am so incredibly thankful  for the work they’ve done supporting the Council over the last several years.” 

The Council’s newest members stated their gratitude for the support of La Verne residents and shared  their excitement to serve the community in this capacity. 

“Public service has always been a major part of my life, and I am excited to continue that in my new role  as a member of the City Council,” said Councilmember Kashifalghita. “La Verne is very unique, and it’s  important that we do what we can to keep improving it.”

“I am incredibly grateful for all of the people that helped me to get back on City Council,” said  Councilmember Johnson. “La Verne is a special place, filled with special people, and I am looking forward  to serving our community.” 

Following the districting process, the City’s Mayor is now selected by the Council Members on an annual  basis. The new City Council’s first act was to select a Mayor to serve until July 2023. The City Council  unanimously voted to appoint Tim Hepburn as La Verne’s Mayor. After Mayor Hepburn’s term, the  Mayoral seat will rotate and City Council will select another member to become the next Mayor.  Councilman Rick Crosby was also unanimously elected to serve as La Verne’s Mayor Pro Tem. 

“It is a great honor to be selected to represent our La Verne community again,” said Mayor Hepburn. “I  will always do my best to ensure that I deliver on what is expected of me as your Mayor.”
