The City of Portola, located in Plumas County, is a full-service City that is clean, safe, affordable, provides year-round recreation and is ideal for raising a family.  Portola was founded and still serves as a railroad town along the Union Pacific Railroad’s beautiful Feather River Route.  A working railroad museum, located within the City, offers hands on experiences including the opportunity to operate a locomotive.  The Middle Fork of the Feather River flows through the City and features a riverwalk, fishing, wildlife viewing and much more.  The community is the home of K-12 schools and a hospital that serves a wide variety of needs including a 24/7 ER and long-term care.  The diverse population (2,104) consists of families and retirees, including professionals, railroad workers and remote workers.  Portola is close to Reno, Nevada and Lake Tahoe for major entertainment, an international airport and other amenities found only in larger cities.  

Appointed by the City Council, the City Manager has responsibility for supervising government operations and implementing the policies adopted by the City Council. The City Manager oversees the City budget, personnel matters, and serves as the Council’s chief policy advisor. The City of Portola wishes to attract a personable candidate who can assist the City Council with a vision to move the City forward, and is knowledgeable about managing a small city with a small staff.  Desirable qualities of the new City Manager include experience in public relations, some knowledge of planning, budgeting and familiarity with water/wastewater utility operations.
