The City Attorney of Newport Beach was arrested Sunday on suspicion of spousal abuse that took place in his home in Santa Ana.

David R. Hunt, 52, was arrested of felony spousal battery. The Orange County Register reported that he had got into an argument with his 18-year-old son, and when his wife intervened, she was assaulted.

According the article, police said Hunt’s 49-year-old wife was taken to the hospital suffering from a laceration to her arm and a large bump on the back of her head.

“She struck a table on the way down to the ground,” an officer told the newspaper.

Hunt previously served as a contract city attorney for Pismo Beach and Morro Bay. He began as city attorney in Newport Beach in 2008. 

According to The Daily Pilot newspaper, Hunt was back at work Tuesday, two days after police arrested him at his Santa Ana home Sunday on suspicion of felony spousal abuse.
