City of Cupertino logoThe City of Cupertino is pleased to announce the appointment and promotion of Esther Kwon as the new Communications Officer. Kwon has been the Acting Communications Officer since February, and officially assumed this new role on June 6.

“I am excited that Esther accepted the position, as she brings with her a great skill set and very strong experience in communications,” said City Manager Jim Throop. “I believe that she will be a key component to our team and help further the wonderful news about Cupertino to our residents and beyond.”

Kwon started with the City of Cupertino in January 2020 and has served in the Office of Communications within the City Manager’s Office since. Prior to joining the City, Kwon worked in journalism as a television news anchor and reporter for ABC, CBS, and FOX affiliates. She also has experience working in communications and marketing for the hospitality and restaurant industry.

“I am excited to continue working with our City Council and staff in delivering vital information to our residents,” stated Kwon. “It is an honor to serve this community, and as outreach and public engagement continue to be a high priority for the City, I look forward to building stronger connections with our City Council, staff, residents, and partners.”

Kwon is a Southern California native who holds a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and minors in Spanish and Elementary Education. She has lived in Missouri, Michigan, and Illinois and enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
