Mountain View’s guaranteed basic income pilot program, Elevate MV, is the recipient of a $100,000 grant from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The City Council officially accepted the grant funding from SVCF at the Tuesday, June 14 meeting.

“We are very appreciative that Silicon Valley Community Foundation is generously supporting Elevate MV, Mountain View’s guaranteed basic income pilot program,” said Mayor Lucas Ramirez. “Only through a collaborative effort can we as a community reduce poverty and help families thrive.”

“Silicon Valley Community Foundation is proud to partner with the City of Mountain View on its Elevate MV guaranteed basic income pilot program,” said Gina D. Dalma, Executive Vice President of Community Action, Policy and Strategy at Silicon Valley Community Foundation. “We know that programs like these are effective in building pathways for our hard-working neighbors—those whose shoulders our communities stand on—to have the financial security they need to thrive and succeed.”

The Elevate MV pilot will aid extremely low-income Mountain View families and caregivers with at least one child under age 18 through $500 monthly cash payments for at least one year. The pilot will be limited to 166 randomly selected qualifying recipients. The City now anticipates accepting applications for the pilot program in the mid-to-late summer timeframe.

In February 2022, the Council approved over $1 million in funding Elevate MV for one year. As part of the Fiscal Year 2022-23 budget process, another $1 million in funding is proposed for the pilot program to run for a second year.
