CAPIO and CalOES to host Emergency Communications Academy on June 13

Registration is now open for the 2023 Emergency Communications Academy being held June 13 – 14, 2023 in the Sacramento region.

Communications professionals from across the state convene for this unique, hands-on training for those wanting to learn effective, cutting-edge risk and crisis communication tactics and strategies using lessons learned from real-world events. This is a multi-day academy with robust training and presentations and hands-on experiences. The event was founded in 2019 as a joint effort between the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and the California Association of Public Information Officials.

This year’s event keynote is Dr. Vincent Covello, one of the world’s leading experts and practitioners on the practice of risk, high-concern, and crisis communications and is the author of more than 150 articles in scientific journals and the author/editor of more than 20 books. Other topics on day one include cybersecurity, earthquake and other crisis messaging.

Day two includes hands-on training at the CalOES Emergency Operations Center at Mather, California.
