City of Hawthorne logoThe City of Hawthorne announces its much-anticipated annual Halloween Spooktacular event and the second annual Halloween Home Decorating Contest, promising spine-tingling fun and eerie excitement for the entire community.

The City of Hawthorne’s Halloween Spooktacular, an enchanting carnival hosted by the Community Services Department, is set to bewitch the city on Saturday, October 28th, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Park. This family-friendly extravaganza will be an opportunity for ghouls and goblins of all ages to come together and celebrate the spookiest season of the year.

The event will feature an array of thrilling activities, including:

  • Trunk or Treat: Join the Hawthorne Police Department and explore decorated City vehicles where you can “trunk or treat” to your heart’s content.
  • Carnival Games: Test your skills and luck at a variety of holiday games!
  • Jumpers: Hawthorne’s little ones are invited to bounce the afternoon away in our exciting inflatable jumpers.
  • Food Trucks: Satisfy your appetite with delicious treats from local food vendors.

This year, in response to community enthusiasm and high attendance in previous years, the Halloween Spooktacular will take place in Memorial Park. The larger venue allows for expanded game and trunk-or-treating areas, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

The Community Services Department also invites all Hawthorne Community Members to showcase their creativity and spooky spirit in our second annual Halloween Home Decorating Contest, which will be held on Tuesday, October 24th. If you’re interested in participating, simply send an email to parksrec@cityofhawthorne.org with your name, address, phone number, a description of your decorations, and photos of your Halloween handiwork. The deadline for registration is Friday, October 20th.

Last year’s inaugural contest was a ghostly hit, with a dozen homes displaying diverse, haunting themes. Some homes were spine-chilling, while others were downright scary, but all were remarkably adorned with creative displays. This year, participants who come in first, second, and third place will receive a gift card to a home improvement store for their eerie efforts.

Our judging criteria for the Halloween Home Decorating Contest will include creativity, adherence to theme, use of materials and items, attention to detail, the share of self-made vs. purchased decorations, special effects, and overall presentation.
