City of Palmdale logoThe City of Palmdale will celebrate the unveiling of its first obstacle course and new playground equipment with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 3:30 p.m. The event will occur at Desert Sands Park, located at 39117 3rd St. East.

The new playground, thoughtfully designed to cater to different age groups, features sections geared toward children aged 2 to 5 and 5 to 12. There are numerous play structures and elements for kids to climb, spin, run and more. The innovative obstacle course includes an eight-foot Traverse Wall, Balance Walk, seven-foot Up & Over net wall and a U-Turn Ramp.

The equipment focuses on both the physical and social aspects of inclusion and child development. Notably, the SkyRun Zip Track offers an exciting motion play activity that feels like flying. The Zero-G seat promotes inclusivity and allows all children to join the fun.

“We are thrilled to bring state-of-the-art playground equipment to Desert Sands Park,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “This improvement aligns with the City’s commitment to creating inclusive and engaging recreational spaces for children. The new features will not only provide exciting play opportunities but will also contribute to the beautification and enhancement of this beloved park.”

The project is fully funded through Measure AV funds, totaling $780,000.

Residents are encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and enjoy the new equipment firsthand. The playground is located within the 20-acre Desert Sands Park between the community building and softball fields.
