The Town of Yucca Valley is thrilled to announce the installation of six utility box artworks designed by local artists. The transformed utility boxes designed by talented local artists are displayed at various sites throughout town. This innovative project will bring a splash of color and creativity to the streets of Yucca Valley, enhancing the visual landscape for residents and visitors alike. The selected artists and their utility box locations, chosen through a competitive process, are:
- Chloe Allred is a painter, writer, and educator based in Yucca Valley. Her pieces “Our Eyes Met: Coyote” and “Desert Tortoise Stroke My Cute Aggression” can be found on two utility boxes by Carl’s Jr. and the Tesla charging station.
- Sherri Scott is a versatile artist and designer. Sherri’s piece “JT Morning/Noon/Night” can be found at the Starbucks drive-thru, while her piece “The DANCE: Boulders, Mountains, and Trails” resides at the Basin Transit Center on Yucca Trail.
- Julie Peasley is a digital artist living in Yucca Valley. Her piece “Day Stars Night Suns” is wrapped onto the utility box near the Panda Express and Taco Bell drive-thrus on the east side of town.
- Ken Lee is a night photographer who loves to drive long hours in a dusty car listening to weird music and staying out all night creating photos. His piece “When the Light Goes Down in the Desert” is on display at the Hawk’s Landing Golf Course on the west side of town.
A call for Artists by the Town of Yucca Valley was announced on November 2, with submissions due on December 4. The Call sought local artists to submit designs that would be vinyl-wrapped onto various utility boxes throughout town. The Public Art Program is not just an aesthetic enhancement; it is representative of Yucca Valley’s commitment to fostering local art and community engagement.
