With over 28 years of public sector experience and a proven track record of leadership and innovation, Saeki brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role.

Saeki has served as the City Manager for Whittier since 2019, where he was responsible for overseeing municipal government operations, implementing City Council policies, and supervising city department activities with a focus on identifying and addressing key community issues and interests. His tenure in Whittier was marked by significant accomplishments, including the establishment of a comprehensive homeless navigation center, the certification of a Housing Element as part of a General Plan update, and the development of a City Council-driven five-year strategic plan. This plan prioritized enhancing public safety, fiscal sustainability, and the overall quality of life for Whittier residents.

“Brian’s visionary leadership and deep understanding of municipal operations make him an excellent choice to guide Vernon into its next chapter,” said Mayor Judith Merlo. “We are confident that his experience in city administration and dedication to community-driven initiatives has equipped him to address diverse challenges and implement innovative solutions that will positively impact the growth and stability of the city.”

Saeki’s dedication to fostering a thriving local economy included streamlining processes for new business development, supporting small businesses, and cultivating a business-friendly climate that attracted investment and encouraged job creation. His commitment to public safety was exemplified through his efforts to address critical staffing needs within the Whittier Police Department, ensuring robust and effective security for the community.

“I am honored to join Vernon as its City Administrator,” said Saeki. “I look forward to collaborating with the City Council, staff, businesses and residents to build on the city’s successes and work toward a vibrant and prosperous future for all.”

Before his tenure in Whittier, Saeki held key positions in several California cities, including Arcadia, Downey, and Rosemead, as well as serving as City Manager in Covina and San Fernando. Saeki holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Cal Poly Pomona and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Cal State Northridge. The proposed start date for Saeki to officially assume his new role is February 24, 2025.
