In response to increasing threats of wildfire, droughts and extreme weather, the Board of Supervisors has approved a contract with Rincon Consultants to prepare a Climate Action and Adaptation Plan.
The plan, which is scheduled to be completed by July 2026, is intended to identify cost-effective strategies to protect residents and reduce emissions that impact the climate. The plan fits in with the Board’s climate resilience and emergency preparedness priority objectives. The Board approved the contract Feb. 11.
As part of the plan development, Rincon Consultants will lead community engagement and education efforts, including scheduling public workshops in Nevada City and Truckee, visiting community events and conducting online surveys. The surveys are intended to help the County better understand what is most important to the community when it comes to resiliency and adaptation efforts. The planning process will prioritize vulnerable communities such as seniors and will include scientific rigor.
“This will be a collaborative effort that will involve input from residents, businesses and local organizations,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Heidi Hall. “Together, we can build a resilient Nevada County that thrives among changing climate conditions. We encourage all community members to participate in this process and share their insights.”
The contract is for nearly $400,000, with more than half of the cost paid for through the state Regional Resilience Grant Program.
