The City of Baldwin Park is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $2 million grant from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD) as part of its Measure A Acquisition-Only Competitive Grant Program. This funding will support the City’s acquisition of new parkland on Puente Avenue, furthering our mission to expand safe, sustainable green spaces for all residents.

The County’s Measure A Acquisition-Only Competitive Grant Program aims to promote park equity by prioritizing funding for underserved areas, ensuring communities across the county can enjoy the health, environmental and social benefits of parks. On Feb. 25, the RPOSD announced roughly $17 million in grant awards to 13 agencies in Los Angeles County for its 2024 cycle. In total, eight cities and five non-governmental organizations were awarded funding to secure 632 acres of parkland, including $2 million for the City of Baldwin Park.
In acquiring the 0.5-acre parcel at 1837 Puente Avenue, the City aims to create a thriving new pocket park that is also proximate to a wider network of parks and trails, including the future 5-mile Baldwin Park Greenway. The park is envisioned to feature amenities such as a playground, fitness equipment, a picnic area, shaded seating, restrooms and landscaping. Native and drought-tolerant plants are expected to enhance the site’s biodiversity, reduce urban heat and improve air quality in alignment with the City’s sustainability goals.
The proposed park will also enhance the distribution of green spaces throughout the City, serving as a complement to Ana Montenegro Park, another new pocket park coming soon to the north side of Baldwin Park. Both parks will provide residents with quick access to outdoor recreational facilities, significantly improving neighborhood quality of life.
