Tripepi Smith is pleased to announce the addition of Alexis Brown-Gillam as the newest Director on our team. With more than 15 years of professional experience, including over a decade in local government, Alexis brings executive-level leadership, deep knowledge of municipal operations and a values-driven approach to strategic communications and community engagement.
Throughout her career in local government, Alexis has held executive leadership roles in both coastal and inland California communities, including serving as Deputy City Manager and Acting Assistant City Manager for the City of Malibu and Assistant City Manager for the City of Imperial. Her accomplishments include leading emergency operations, crisis communications and recovery/rebuild efforts for the Broad, Franklin and Palisades Fires, guiding the Malibu Community Lands project through a robust engagement process and advancing multi-agency safety improvements along Pacific Coast Highway. In Imperial, she led cross-functional teams to deliver capital projects, expand community programming and secure millions in state and federal funding for infrastructure and economic development.
“Local government has always been at the heart of my career because it’s where public service feels most personal and impactful. Joining Tripepi Smith allows me to continue supporting agencies I care about while also creating space to grow personally,” said Alexis. “I’m excited to collaborate with clients who are doing meaningful work in their communities.”
Alexis’s leadership has been recognized throughout her career. She served as the 2023 City Manager in Residence for Pepperdine University’s Davenport Institute of Public Engagement, received the 2023 Stewardship Award from the Municipal Manager’s Association of Southern California for her commitment to supporting professional growth and was named Top 100 Local Government Influencers in the United States by Engaging Local Government Leaders.
Alexis earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from DeVry University while working full-time and building her career in public service.
“Alexis has a proven track record of guiding agencies through complex challenges while keeping community needs at the forefront. I have seen her in action and she brings confidence and deep insights into discussion and resident engagement,” said President Ryder Todd Smith. “Her blend of strategic insight, calm leadership and authentic connection with people makes her a tremendous asset to both our team and the agencies we serve.”
