After more than 18 years of dedicated service to the City of Dana Point, City Manager Mike Killebrew has announced his retirement, effective December 30, 2025.
Killebrew leaves behind a legacy of exceptional service, having served the City in multiple leadership roles.
Over the course of his career, he spent 13 years as Director of Administrative Services and Assistant City Manager before being appointed City Manager in 2020. For the past five years, he has guided Dana Point with steady leadership, advancing the City Council’s Strategic Plan and supporting a strong and resilient city organization.
As a 26-year resident of Dana Point, Killebrew was the first local resident to serve as City Manager. In addition to his professional service, he has been a visible and active community leader. In 2019, he was honored as Dana Point Citizen of the Year, recognizing his commitment not only to City Hall, but also to the community at large. He has held leadership roles in numerous local nonprofit and civic organizations, including serving as Past President of the Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary Club, where he was twice named Rotarian of the Year. His community contributions extend to Fish for Life, Boys and Girls Club of Capistrano Valley, Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group, and VFW Post 9934, among others.
“Mike’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping the City we know today,” said Mayor Matthew Pagano. “He has guided Dana Point with dedication, vision, and a genuine love for this community. His legacy of service will benefit our residents for years to come, and we are deeply grateful for his contributions.”
Killebrew’s retirement marks the conclusion of a career defined by fiscal responsibility, collaboration, and community engagement. He leaves the City well-prepared for the future, with a dedicated and talented staff, a strong financial foundation, and a legacy of leadership that has strengthened both the City and the community it serves.
