The City of Calabasas has secured two grants totaling approximately $500,000 from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District, advancing the City’s efforts to enhance local parks while reducing the financial impacts on its General Fund.
The grants will fund the installation of new shade structures, updated signage and fencing improvements at Wild Walnut Park, as well as the replacement of existing fencing at Gates Canyon Park. These projects demonstrate the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, accessible and enjoyable public spaces for residents of all ages.
“These grant awards reflect our commitment to responsible financial stewardship and improving public spaces for all residents,” said Mayor Peter Kraut. “Every dollar we secure through partnerships and grants helps us reinvest in the quality of life that makes Calabasas such a special place.”
To ensure the projects support community priorities, the City invites residents to participate in a community input session at Gates Canyon Park on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the upcoming fencing project and share feedback on the fencing styles, locations and safety enhancements.
“These grants are an exciting step toward improving safety, accessibility and enjoyment in our local parks,” said Community Services Director Erica Green. “Community feedback plays a vital role in shaping how our parks grow and evolve to reflect what residents value most. We are looking forward to hearing from the community at Gates Canyon Park.”
This latest achievement follows a series of efforts by the City to secure outside funding, reduce operational costs and protect local resources — part of a broader strategy to maintain long-term financial sustainability while continuing to deliver high-quality community amenities.
