In local government, navigating heated public meetings and internal disputes is a daily reality. But these moments don’t have to be roadblocks. Instead of just “getting through” the day, what if you could transform these challenges into opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and deeper community trust?
This spring, the Davenport Institute for Public Engagement and Civic Leadership is offering its premier professional certificate program — built specifically for the real-world demands of local government.
Professional Certificate in Public Engagement for Local Government
A 6-week immersive program for entry level and mid-career professionals ready to lead an engaged organization.
This isn’t a theoretical course; it is a practitioner-led incubator. Each week, you will learn from Davenport Institute trainers who have served, or currently serve in local government. You will gain the tools to move beyond “checking a box” and start building a culture of meaningful civic participation.
When you apply, you’ll identify a real-world project currently on your desk. Over six weeks, you will receive expert guidance to build a personalized engagement strategy, culminating in a Public Engagement Summit where you will workshop your action plan with peers.
You will leave this program equipped to:
- Lead with Strategy: Partner with stakeholders from day one to ensure project success.
- Build Culture: Implement practical tools to weave engagement into your organization’s DNA.
- Strengthen Democracy: Position yourself as a civic leader committed to productive community dialogue.
