City of Artesia logoOn Tuesday, March 17, the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD) announced more than $78 million in grant funding to 48 organizations including cities, non-profit organizations, and public agencies to plan, build and improve parks and open space across the County.

The funding comes from Measure A, a voter-approved property tax passed by Los Angeles County voters in 2016 to expand and improve parks, open space, and the public health and environmental benefits they provide.

The City of Artesia was awarded $2 Million of Measure A funds which will be used for the construction of the Artesia Botanical Garden. The RPOSD grant will cover a significant portion of the total project cost of $9,085,000. Federal, State and City monies comprise
the rest of the funding sources.

Artesia Mayor Trevino thanked RPOSD and Supervisor Hahn for the $2 Million Grant that will provide the funding to complete the Artesia Botanical Garden. Mayor Trevino stated, “Park spaces are a vital part of any community, and we are extremely excited about our Botanical Garden, which will be a huge addition to our City. I have always been an advocate for our Parks and Recreation Department and all the services they provide to our youth, seniors and residents.” The Mayor also expressed the City’s excitement to work towards completing this project.

The Artesia Botanical Garden will offer the community a new 1.43-acre park with numerous planting areas to attract birds and butterflies and with educational components to describe tropical, California arid and desert landscapes. The park will also feature a 3,052 square foot community center, with indoor and outdoor spaces for gatherings and small-scale community events. Construction on the Botanical Garden is expected to begin at the end of 2026.
