City of Davis logoThe City of Davis announced today that City Manager Mike Webb has accepted a new position as the County Administrator of Yolo County effective March 31, 2025.

Mike has nearly 28 years of dedicated experience with the City of Davis. His career began with the City as a Planning Intern when he was a senior at UC Davis, and over the years, he advanced through various roles, including Planning Technician, Assistant Planner, Associate Planner and Principal Planner. In 2013, Mike became the Director of Community Development and Sustainability before serving as Assistant City Manager beginning in 2015. Mike was appointed City Manager in 2017.

“It has been a distinct honor and privilege to serve the City Council and the community of Davis for nearly 28 years,” said City Manager Mike Webb. “The City of Davis is fortunate to have a City Council that cares so deeply for sound governance and the good of the whole community. The Davis staff team is nothing short of amazing in their steadfast dedication to their craft and the service they provide to the community day-in and day-out. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together over the decades. I look forward to continuing to build on the myriad partnerships and collaborations I have had the pleasure to be part of during my career, and I look forward to serving the whole of Yolo County in the years ahead.”

“After more than 25 years of unwavering dedication to the City of Davis, Mike’s contributions leave an indelible mark on the organization,” said Mayor Bapu Vaitla. “With his tireless commitment to service, Mike’s leadership and expertise have not only shaped the City as an organization but have inspired others to provide the same level of commitment and responsibility to our community that he did. While his presence will be greatly missed here, the legacy Mike built will continue to guide us. We know he will continue his excellent work at Yolo County as he looks out for the greater community at large.”

During Mike’s period as Davis City Manager, he:

  • Fostered an organizational culture of collaboration, inclusivity and trust.
  • Advanced multi-agency partnerships that have had profound positive influence on the community, including Healthy Davis Together, the South Davis Library and the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding with the City, County and UC Davis on student housing.
  • Facilitated the formation of a grants strategic plan to prioritize needs and the team resources to successfully secure over $55 million in grant revenue since 2018 for capital, planning, public safety and climate projects.
  • Led the team to oversee the entitlement and development of a multitude of commercial and residential projects, including thousands of market rate and dedicated affordable housing units and new neighborhoods, and commercial projects such as DMG Mori, University Research Park and Target, to name just a few.
  • Facilitated the City’s development of multiple strategic plans to shape sound evidence-based and data-driven policy-making decisions for the community, including the Downtown Specific Plan, Urban Forest Master Plan, Parks Strategic Plan and the Pavement Management Plan.

“Mike Webb has been an exemplary city manager,” said Vice Mayor and City Council member Donna Neville. “His depth of knowledge, his long history with the City of Davis and his strong, but compassionate management style have all served the City well. We will miss him greatly, but look forward to seeing him excel in this new position.”

“Mike made my transition to City Council so smooth and welcoming,” said City Council member Linda Deos. “His kindness and support have truly made me feel at home with staff and leadership since day one, and I’m grateful for the warm reception and guidance he’s offered. It’s been a pleasure working with Mike, and I wish him all the best.”

“While it will be a challenge to replace Mike, I am glad to know the city will still be under his leadership at the county level,” said City Council member Gloria Partida. “I am grateful to have worked with him for a portion of his long years of service, especially during some of the most difficult times our city has ever experienced.”

“City Manager Webb has been a dedicated employee and leader for the City of Davis with resilience and fortitude,” said City Council member Josh Chapman. “We appreciate his years of service and wish him all the best in his new role as County Administrator for Yolo County.”

As the City Manager, Mike is the administrator of a full-service city with 11 departments, and oversees an annual budget of approximately $256 million and a workforce of around 380 staff.

More details on the process to temporarily fill and/or hire for the City Manager’s position will be shared in the coming weeks.
