From your city hall to the state Capitol, come together to celebrate local government and public service
By Amanda Cadelago, senior marketing and communications manager
Every day, California’s 483 cities deliver the essential services that residents depend on — from maintaining streets and libraries to responding to natural disasters and complex challenges. California Cities Week, April 19-25, is an opportunity to collectively recognize that work.
To mark the week, Asm. Blanca Pacheco is once again sponsoring a resolution in the state Assembly recognizing California Cities Week. The resolution, which will likely be considered on April 23, continues what has become an annual statewide acknowledgement of the vital role cities play in our lives and the public servants who power them.
How to engage
Cities can take part in California Cities Week in ways that reflect their own unique community. Some ways to participate include:
- Adopting a city council resolution recognizing California Cities Week and sharing it with your community.
- Issuing a press release highlighting city services, accomplishments, or staff contributions.
- Spotlighting what makes your city unique on social media using Cal Cities’ social media toolkits, tagging @CalCities, and using #CACitiesWeek.
- Highlighting local projects that improve residents’ lives by sharing your #LocalWorks stories.
- Sharing what public service means to you — and why you’re proud to serve your city.
These small but meaningful actions help reinforce the value of cities and the role local government plays in communities statewide. And you don’t have to start from scratch; just use the Cal Cities toolkit.
Celebrate together at the City Leaders Summit
Cal Cities is celebrating Cities Week during the City Leaders Summit in Sacramento, April 22–24. Look for the dedicated California Cities Week hub near registration at the summit. Participants can stop by to take photos, leave messages about what they love most about their city, pick up Cities Week materials, and see what colleagues from across the state are sharing.
Join your colleagues at the City Leaders Summit
The City Leaders Summit is Cal Cities’ largest advocacy event, bringing hundreds of city officials and staff to the state Capitol each spring.
The Summit begins Wednesday, April 22, with a full day of advocacy, including legislative briefings, lobbying meetings with lawmakers, policy discussions, and coordinated outreach on Cal Cities’ member‑driven priorities.
The next two days will feature in‑depth educational programming for elected officials and senior city staff focused on emerging challenges, practical solutions, and leadership development.
Thursday also includes a special highlight: the 2026 Gubernatorial Candidate Forum, moderated by Scott Shafer of KQED’s Political Breakdown. Attendees will hear directly from the candidates for governor about their priorities for cities and their vision for the state‑local partnership in the years ahead.
Whether cities participate locally, at the City Leaders Summit, or both, California Cities Week offers a shared moment to celebrate all that cities do for Californians. Join Cal Cities and cities statewide in celebrating the work you do every day for your community.
