The city of Tustin has continued discussion that would give the council a paperless option during meetings. (See full staff report here)

Finance Director Pamela Arends-King directed the staff to review the feasibility of the city purchasing five Apple iPads enabling the council to view agendas and reports.

After purchasing protection plans the cost would be approximately $5,000. The City Council will need to decide who will be responsible for the costs of optional equipment for the tablet computers such as carrying cases and data plans.

The 2010-2011 budget does not include provisions for these computers, meaning additional funds would be necessary.

Staff evaluated devices such as eBook readers to laptops for an easy user-friendly device that allows for electronic agenda review and access to emails.

The Apple iPad was the device that met all these criteria Additionally the Apple iPad is able to integrate with the City’s Microsoft Exchange email server to provide off-site access to emails and calendar options.
