Brett Channing has left the Yorba Linda staff to join City Manager Tim O’Donnell in the city of Brea.

Alan Shear, Huntington Park Assistant City Manager to City Manager Greg Korduner, has been appointed to be the new Assistant City Manager in Martinez Phil Vince is City Manager.

Earlier this month a PG&E natural gas transmission line installed in 1948 ruptured in San Bruno, killing at least 4 people (4 others were unaccounted for), and injuring 52 others, while destroying 37 homes. San Bruno City Manager Connie Jackson noted that the accident’s cause is under investigation.

San Ramon Valley Citizens Corps Council has been recognized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a national finalist for emergency agencies serving populations under 750,000. The San Ramon Council includes the City of San Ramon, the Town of Danville, the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. San Ramon City Manager is Herb Moniz and the City’s Emergency Preparedness Manager is Raymond RiordanDanville Town Manager is Joe Calabrigo.

Merced Assistant City Manager William Cahill, 54, is the new Loveland, Colorado City Manager.

1976 California Polytechnic University, Pomona Urban and Regional Planning graduate Marcia Murray Raines is currently the Millbrae City Manager, and 1971 graduate in the same discipline Lee Whittenberg has retired as the Seal Beach Director of Community Development.

Belmont City Manager Greg Scoles, a former Santa Rosa Deputy City Manager, started his new position in September. Greg is a former City Administrator in Ashland, Oregon.

Compton City Manager Charles Evans has been relieve of duty and City Controller Willie Norfleet was selected to replace him while a recruitment for a permanent replacement is conducted.  Charles worked with Compton for the past 28-years, starting in the Risk Management Office.  He has been City Manager, first as “interim,” since his predecessor City Manager Barbara Kilroy left office in 2007.

Stockton City Manager Bob Deis and his 5-month old Golden Retriever puppy were attacked by a pair of pit bulls recently as he walked in his Stockton neighborhood.  The veterinarian said that the Golden was lucky to be alive.  The City Manager had six bite wounds as well.

Ventura City Manager Rick Cole, a former Pasadena Mayor, visited Bell on September 4 to address the Bell Resident Club about corruption in their city. He also joined Assembly Member Hector De La Torre to address citizens of the City of Bell

Retired San Gabriel City Manager P. Michael Paules recently served as City Manager in Residence for the University of La Verne.  Mike was also recently elected Vice-Chair of the City/County Management Fellowship Board at USC.

Fortuna City Manager Duane Rigge assures everyone that the City’s water supply is safe to drink, despite rumors to the contrary.

Dana Point City Manager Doug Chotkevys started the school year by taking his daughter back to college in Connecticut.

Danville Town Manager Joe Calabrigo served as an August speaker to the Danville Rotary Club.

Placentia City Manager Troy Butzlaff recently met with veteran engineer Roy Stephenson and retired Indian Wells and Arcadia City Manager George Watts.

Reportedly there were more than 100 applicants for the Moreno Valley City Manager position, but the recruitment was discontinued with Interim City Manager William Bopf, 74, indicated that he wanted to be appointed to the position. Bill has served as Interim City Manager since November following the December retirement of former City Manager Robert Gutierrez.

Livingston City Manager Richard Warne won the most recent round in a lawsuit brought by Foster Farms accusing him of misusing public funds.  Merced County Superior Court Judge Brian McCabe ruled that Foster Farms did not prove the accusations.

Former City Manager Sheryl Boell of CH2M Hill ordered some Baby Monster Kookies and reports that they were very good.

City Manager Marc Grisham, 60, has decided to retire at the end of the year from his post in Pittsburg, six months before his employment agreement expires.

Davis City Manager Bill Emlen is resigning his position to take the Director of Resource Management post with Solano County.

Condolences to the family and friends of Jim McGirr who recently passed away.  Jim was Willdan founder Dan Heil‘s first employee when he started the company that is now Willdan. management team in the City of where on another occasion.
