Scandal, misusing public funds, intimidating voters, and soliciting political favors: not a good way to end one’s career as a free-man. 

But, for the next 2 years and eight months, Rex Gutierrez will have lots of time to think about his mistakes.

The problems stem from when he was serving as government relations director for former Accessor Bill Postmus. There, his job was an official sham, and instead of helping the residents of Rancho Cucamonga, he repaid his boss’s political allies and donors with favors.

A former Rancho Cucamonga city councilman, convicted of grand theft and corruption related to his job at the San Bernardino County assessor’s office, was sentenced Wednesday to two years and eight months in prison.

Rex Gutierrez was forced to resign from the City Council after a jury in October convicted him of two counts of grand theft, one count of filing a false claim with the county and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime, authorities said.
