At the August 2 City Council meeting, Southern California Edison (SCE) representatives presented their annual circuit reliability review, at the request of the City. Edison representatives announced they will be holding a town hall meeting. The town hall is scheduled for October 3, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lanterman Auditorium (4490 Cornishon Avenue) and will discuss the recent outages and SCE planned projects to improve service reliability.

In their presentation, SCE outlined their services, the measures they take to protect public safety and improvements made to provide clean energy while increasing reliability. SCE also presented outage and circuit reliability data for the La Cañada Flintridge service area, which showed that while LCF experienced longer periods of unexpected outages that SCE has increased improvements to their infrastructure over the past year in comparison to prior years.

“Energy reliability and efficiency are important for the well-being of the City’s businesses and its residents,” said Mayor Keith Eich. “While more needs to be done, we appreciate SCE’s investment to implement the solutions and new equipment identified as necessary in their circuit reliability study.”

At the City Council meeting, SCE discussed new equipment installations, which included installing 50 fast-acting fuses, which were noted to be 80% complete. SCE credited the circuits’ performance improvements to the installation of these fast-acting fuses that help isolate incidents. This lessens the number of impacted customers and reduces the amount of time technicians need when investigating outages.

The City Council requested SCE provide the Town Hall to provide this information and answer additional questions that local business owners and residents may have about energy reliability in the City.
