Partner Amy Ackerman, who joined RPLG in 2020, has been promoted to Head of Government Section.

During her three years at the firm, Amy has leveraged her extensive public agency experience in service as Town Attorney for the Town of Corte Madera and its subsidiary Sanitation District, General Counsel to San Francisco’s Downtown Business Improvement District, City Attorney of the City of Belvedere and General Counsel for the County Probation Consortium Partnering for Youth Realignment, a forum for California county probation officers to discuss youth treatment facilities in response to state realignment.

RPLG’s government practice provides public agencies with solution-oriented, reality-based legal advice that empowers policy makers to achieve goals while minimizing legal risk.

Partner Ruth Bond, named a Top Woman Lawyer of 2020 and 2021 by the Daily Journal, has been promoted to Head of Litigation Section.

Ruth, who has practiced at RPLG for five years, leads the firm’s workplace investigations practice and is a foundational member of the firm’s Public Safety Reform and Innovations Practice Group. She supported the RPLG teams that co-represented San Francisco in the class-action litigation against manufacturers and distributors of opioids. Ruth also represented plaintiffs in groundbreaking shareholder derivative lawsuits against Oracle, NortonLifeLock and Monster Beverage in 2020 to increase diversity on corporate boards and executive teams by holding the boards responsible for false and misleading statements about diversity in the companies’ proxy statements.

With extensive experience in courtrooms including state and federal trial courts and appellate courts, as well as the California Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court, RPLG’s litigation team specializes in impact litigation and defending local governments.

Partner Jenica Maldonado has been promoted to Co-Managing Partner, a role that she will share with Founding Partner Jon Holtzman.

Jenica, who joined RPLG in 2021, was selected as a Top Labor and Employment Lawyer of 2022 by the Daily Journal. She serves as special outside counsel to cities, counties and special districts on complex labor, employment and government law matters. Jenica’s expertise includes supporting public agencies with crisis management, labor negotiations and labor relations, managing council and city manager/staff relations, hiring and separating public sector executive employees, performance management, discipline, reasonable accommodation, open meeting and public records act laws and government ethics issues. Jenica is regularly engaged as an outside investigator to investigate allegations of misconduct by public sector employees and elected officials.
