City of Brea logoBrea proudly announces the hiring of Carrie Hernandez as the City’s  Community Services Director. Hernandez will officially join the City’s Executive Team, effective Saturday, August 17 filling a vacancy due to a retirement. 

Hernandez has 30 years of local government experience with proven leadership skills, great communication, and innovative thinking. She is currently Brea’s deputy director of community services. In that role, she led the cultural arts, special events and human services programs. Her most recent efforts include leading Brea’s first Cultural Arts Master Plan, completing a Senior  Center Feasibility Study, and overseeing the Cultural Arts Commission, Parks, Recreation and Human Services Commission, Art in Public Places Committee and Senior Leadership Council. 

Hernandez was first hired by the City of Brea in 2000 and served in various positions and departments for the past 24 years. Prior to Brea, Hernandez also worked for the cities of Anaheim and Buena Park. Hernandez earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University, Fullerton and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. 

As community services director, Hernandez will lead a department that offers a wide range of services for both the Brea and regional communities. The Community Services Department strives to create a healthy community by delivering exceptional service with integrity. Diverse and innovative recreation, special events, cultural arts, human services and senior programming are all offered.  

“l look forward to working with Carrie in her new role,” said Brea City Manager Bill  Gallardo. “Having served Brea for over 20 years, her extensive experience and knowledge of the organization will highly benefit the Community Services Department and Brea community.”
