The Rose Institute of State and Local Government at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) announces the appointment of Ashwin Navin to its board of governors. A 1999 alumnus of Claremont McKenna College, Navin’s appointment represents a significant addition to the Rose Institute’s board through his demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to impact.
Navin is recognized as a visionary leader in the media technology industry. With more than two decades of professional experience, he co-founded and currently serves as chief executive officer of Samba TV, a global leader in media analytics and measurement for marketers, brands, and entertainment companies, built on viewership data from more than 46 million devices worldwide. Samba TV’s data science team has constructed a panel of millions of viewers globally to be representative of the population at large, weighted regionally and reflective of the U.S. Census across age, gender, ethnicity, and household income. With this foundation, Samba TV provides valuable insights into media consumption as well as solutions to reach audiences efficiently across every media platform consumers use today.
“The Rose Institute has for many years operated as a collaboration between academics, students and professional researchers, with real impact on regional government and policy,” shared Navin. “As a Claremont alum and native of California, I look forward to the opportunity to get back on campus and contribute. When we put our heads together, we can have lasting impact on our communities through the Rose Institute’s analytical horsepower and resources.”
Beyond his Rose board seat and full-time executive role at Samba TV, Navin’s commitment to real-world outcomes is exemplified by his support of emerging entrepreneurs as an angel investor and board director.
“Ashwin’s notable leadership and wealth of knowledge in the technology and media industries will provide immense value to the Rose Institute,” noted Ken Miller, director of the Rose Institute. “The impact of media, as it relates to electoral issue messaging and demographics, is especially relevant to our students. His insights will provide a unique perspective to augment the Institute’s research.”
As a former Rose Institute student research assistant, Navin is especially interested in research pertaining to population migration, most notably in the wake of the pandemic, and how this phenomenon impacts political campaigns and issue advocacy.
Navin graduated from Claremont McKenna with a B.A. in Economics and Government. A native Californian originally from Sacramento, he currently resides with his family in Reno, Nevada.
The Rose Institute’s board of governors provides strategic advice to the Institute and works closely with its faculty and students. The Board includes government officials, consultants, election lawyers, business leaders, and journalists.
“I have known Ashwin since his freshman year at CMC where he exhibited the kind of discipline and smarts that have served him well throughout his career and made him successful. The Rose holds a special place in his heart, and his business acumen will be a juggernaut of insights for our Institute stakeholders,” said Ryder Todd Smith, chair of the Rose Institute’s board of governors.
