City of Hemet logoThe California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) has officially approved the City’ of Hemet’s Housing Element for 2021-2029. This approval is a step forward in Hemet’s ongoing efforts to address housing needs and enhance community safety.

The approved Housing Element outlines a comprehensive plan to meet the current and future housing needs of Hemet’s residents. It includes various housing programs aimed at providing support for affordable housing, emergency shelters and supportive housing.

HCD’s approval confirms that Hemet’s Housing Element complies with State Housing Element Law, a necessary condition for the City to qualify for various federal, state and regional funding programs. These include eligibility for grants such as the CalTrans Senate Bill (SB) 1 Sustainable Communities grant and the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program. Compliance also ensures the City can meet the housing needs of all income groups as assessed by the 6th Cycle Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA).

The City will monitor and report the progress of these programs annually to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement. The development and approval process involved extensive community input and collaboration with consultants, ensuring that the Housing Element reflects the needs and priorities of Hemet’s residents. With the approved Housing Element, Hemet is positioned to continue its growth and development while ensuring its residents’ are provided with a safe, equitable and sustainable future.
