Sarah Bunting promoted to permanent position after serving as acting city clerk
The San Leandro City Council voted unanimously to appoint Sarah Bunting as the City of San Leandro’s City Clerk following an extensive recruitment process conducted in partnership with an external recruiting firm. Ms. Bunting was selected for the role by City Manager Janelle Cameron following her service as Acting City Clerk. Ms. Bunting brings a strong commitment to public service and a deep understanding of the vital role the City Clerk plays in supporting transparent and effective local government. In her role as City Clerk, she will oversee the City’s legislative records, elections administration, and compliance with legislative requirements, while serving as a key resource to the City Council, City staff, and the community.
“Sarah has more than 15 years of experience serving in City Clerk offices in Berkeley, Livermore, and now San Leandro,” said City Manager Cameron. “I am especially grateful for her willingness to step into this demanding role during a period of transition for the Council and for the excellent work she has done in guiding the office.”
In response to her appointment, Ms. Bunting said, “I look forward to continuing to work with the City’s outstanding staff to deliver the high-quality customer service our community deserves, while fostering a culture of innovation that identifies new ways to provide services for everyone.”
Ms. Bunting holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Thomas Edison State University and is a Certified Municipal Clerk through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. She is a member of the California Municipal Clerks Association and is a graduate of the Leadership San Leandro (2025–2026) and the Local Government Leadership Academy in Alameda County (2016).
